Dateline: Walt Disney World – May 2, 2020

Now that we’re in the thick of Walt Disney World closures, there have been rumblings and speculations about when the property will reopen. Let’s round up the news of the past week.

Cancellations Continue: For those with reservations through May 23, Disney has been sending out cancellation emails. Guests have a few options for their next trips, including free dining and special summer offers. All theme park hours have been removed from the website.

If you were planning on attending the Villains After Dark parties for May through July, you are out of luck. Disney has canceled these events and offered refunds for those affected guests.

Reopening Mandates: An Orange County task force has made a few health suggestions for businesses reopening through the county, including Walt Disney World. These businesses will be opening in phases with mandated facial masks for employees, strict sanitization rules, and limited capacity in restaurants and bars.

Free Downloads: If you logged into My Disney Experience, you can grab a few (free) downloads from Happily Ever After. You can use the four wallpapers for your mobile phone or laptop.

Happy Birthday, Hollywood Studios: May 1st marked the 31st anniversary of the opening of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Since the parks are closed, Walt Disney World President Josh D’Amaro entered the park and turned on the music.

Mickey Starts Selling Masks: ShopDisney has made available a whole selection of masks with Disney characters. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to charities.

Reservations Reopen: Walt Disney World Resorts have resumed taking reservations for their hotels in June. However, you should know that it doesn’t mean they will keep the reservation or that the parks are reopening on those dates.

The outlook is starting to look less bleak with each passing week. We hope to get answers on when and how the parks will start to reopen. Check back next week for more news around WDW property.
