Farewell to The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

The long whispered rumor suggesting the end of the Osborne Lights has finally come true. In order to make way for Toy Story Land and the Star Wars expansion, the 2015 season will be the final year for the spectacle of lights. This is the 20th year of the annual holiday tradition which takes place on the Streets of America in Hollywood Studios.

Disney Parks Blog issued the following:
“Our heartfelt thanks go out to the family of Jennings Osborne for letting us share their family tradition year after year. And thank you to all of you for being part of the spectacle with us. Here’s to making more memories in this, the 20th and final year.”

The lights were designed by Arkansas businessman Jennings Osborne as a gift to his daughter in 1986. The private display grew too large for his residence prompting complaints and lawsuits from neighbors. Disney decided to bring the dancing lights to Disney-MGM Studios’ Residential Street in 1995. It has been in operation every holiday season except for 2003 when construction prevented the display’s installation.

Disney is offering two special event packages that take one last look at the lights. The Merry & Bright Dessert Party (Nov. 6-Dec. 30) and the Merry & Bright Dinner Reception (Jan. 1 – 3) both will provide optimal viewing for the Osborne Lights. The dinner reception promises to offer “small bites” featuring beef, shrimp and turkey along with wine, beer and specialty beverages. The packages will be available to book starting September 16th.

EDIT: Reservations are now available!

Theresa has been a life-long Disney fan since she first visited the Magic Kingdom in 1985 at the age of 3. According to her mother, she squealed with excitement when she saw Winnie the Pooh and Chip n' Dale for the first time. That love for Disney has not waned as she grew up. She continues to be fascinated with the history of EPCOT Center and maintains the radio station, Kungaloosh Radio.
