Dateline: Walt Disney World – July 16, 2022

If you love those old-timey relics of Walt Disney World’s past, you might want to turn away. Disney has been taking the wrecking ball to a few spots in the complex. Here’s all of the news for this week in July.

No More Drop Ins

Rumors were abound that the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror billboard was going to be demolished. The iconic signs was installed in the 1990s in a median by World Drive. It was used to promote the new Disney MGM Studios attraction. With the demo, all of the attraction billboards have been removed. Disney plans to replace the billboard with landscaping.

Boardwalk Changes

Crews have started taking apart the former ESPN Club. Many of the roof elements were removed and the internee is expected to begin in the next few weeks. The site will be the new home of the Cake Bake Shop.

Boardwalk Bakery Reimagined

We all knew the Boardwalk Bakery was going to refocus on sandwiches and other fare. According to Disney, the BoardWalk Deli will reopen as a “Northeastern-style deli with a brand-new menu that will include fresh deli sandwiches, fresh baked breads, and a selection of bakery items.”

The menu will feature house-baked bagels, an “overstuffed warm pastrami Reuben,” and hand-pipped cannolis. Yum! Consider us sold!

Shorter Refurb for Frozen Sing-Along

Hollywood Studios’ Frozen Sing-Along is on the refurbishment schedule for August 22nd. While the show wasn’t reopening until September 17th, it looks like that has been pushed up to September 9th. Thank goodness, we need a cool spot in HS during the summer heat.

More Entertainment Added To Epcot

For the Food and Wine Festival (hopefully longer), two new acts are performing. Atlas Fusion (Morocco) and Groovin’ Alps (Germany). Both acts are performing several times a day in the pavilions.

That’s all for the week! Are you sad to see the Tower of Terror billboard demolished? Happy for the new BoardWalk Deli?

Kungaloosh Radio

Theresa has been a life-long Disney fan since she first visited the Magic Kingdom in 1985 at the age of 3. According to her mother, she squealed with excitement when she saw Winnie the Pooh and Chip n' Dale for the first time. That love for Disney has not waned as she grew up. She continues to be fascinated with the history of EPCOT Center and maintains the radio station, Kungaloosh Radio.

  • Definitely gonna be missing the billboard. The things you take for granted… had all but become part of the experience for me. Hopefully the landscaping will somehow live up to replacing an icon.

Yeah, I’m not liking some of these changes. I always used it as a driving landmark. Sad to see it go.
