New Year, New Beginnings… What’s Next for Kungaloosh Radio?

“Are you guys still around?”

If you’ve been listening and following for the past year, you might be asking yourself, “What’s going on?”

Well, 2023 was a less than magical year for both me and the station.

I’m a freelancer by trade, and 2023 was like a nightmare rollercoaster that would not end. Artificial intelligence pretty much decimated the marketing industry. I lost clients, had to chase others for payments, and took on too much work for less pay.

With all that stress and uncertainty, I had to walk away from the freelancer life. I was offered a role with an in-house company for more money and benefits. Less freedom, but guaranteed work and pay. The past month has been a transition from wrapping up solo projects to working 9-to-5.

On a personal level, it’s been the year of getting really sick with weird illnesses. Like an inner ear infection during the spring that lasted for three months. I couldn’t swallow without feeling like glass was going down my throat. Medication didn’t work, and it was just a wait and see scenario. And to top it off, double dose of flu A and B to close out the year.

And even the station took a hit too. In August, I’m getting emails and messages about the station going off the air. Well, it turns out that my hosting provider (who I had since 2017) shut down and didn’t give any notice. I lost all my uploaded files (thankfully I had backups) and had to start fresh. Shout out to Streamerr for stepping in and saving the day. They have been top-notch all around.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Kungaloosh Radio’s YouTube channel was demonetized. Why? Because the videos with background music belong to other copyright holders, which is fair enough. But the channel was approved for YT’s partner program with all those background music channels in place. Why change it now? It was obviously fine for the past five years. Honestly, that took the air of my sails regarding the station and channel. The station took a backseat as chaos was around me.

But, it looks like 2024 might be shaping up for the better. What’s next? I’m hoping to get back to running the station without any extra distractions. I’ve always start the year with big plans but those kinda go by the wayside. So let’s just strive for consistent content, music, and possibly more videos.

For this month, I’m planning to get back into our Featureland programming. On deck for January, I have an Adventureland theme. Plus, check out the 3pm time slot for your daily dose of a Magic Kingdom parades.

Let’s hope 2024 is a more positive experience all around!
