Dateline: Walt Disney World (March 30 – April 5, 2025)
If you’ve been waiting for Walt Disney World to crank up the nostalgia, surprise you with a plot twist, or just give you one less thing to carry through the airport—well, congratulations, this is your week. From double water park madness and space burgers to underwater adventures and a souvenir sundae bucket you definitely don’t need but absolutely want, Disney is clearly in its “throw everything at the wall and see what gets posted on Instagram” era. And honestly? We’re here for it.
Double the Water Park Fun
After half a decade of playing tag-team, both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon will finally be open at the same time starting May 21. Yes, you read that right: for the first time since 2019, all six Walt Disney World parks will be operating simultaneously. Blizzard Beach is currently open but will take a quick nap from May 1–20 while Typhoon Lagoon reopens, and then they’ll both be ready to drench guests in “Cool Kid Summer” magic through September 7.
This rare overlap also means resort guests can actually choose which water park to use that complimentary ticket on, instead of crossing their fingers and hoping the slide gods are in their favor.
Out of This World Food Offerings at Sci-Fi
The menu at Sci-Fi Dine-In is getting a plot twist worthy of its own sequel—four new items are landing this week, and they’re bringing intergalactic flavor with them. First up, the Cerulean Moon dessert looks like something straight out of Epcot’s moon base dreams: chocolate mousse with a strawberry center, perched on a graham tart with hibiscus sponge and “space dust” because… obviously.
For entrees, it’s a protein-packed triple feature. The New Feature Film Burger is going full deli mode with corned beef and sauerkraut on a pretzel bun, while the Cyborg-er turns up the heat with pastrami, pepper jack, and Carolina mustard sauce. And because no space station is complete without chicken, the Fried Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich adds Swiss, ham, arugula, and maple Dijon to a brioche bun built to withstand cosmic turbulence. All four launch April 2.
Trial Baggage Service Expands
Well, look who’s trying to win back the budget travelers—Disney just officially rolled out its Airport Luggage Transfer service to all Value Resorts after a quiet test run at Pop Century. If you’re flying Southwest out of MCO, you can now ditch your checked bags with Bell Services and waltz your way to the airport hands-free (because nothing screams “vacation” like dragging two roller bags through a crowded hotel lobby at 5 a.m.). This freebie only works for Southwest—for now—and it’s the first time Disney’s helped with luggage since they unceremoniously killed Magical Express and left us all emotionally (and physically) carrying our own stuff in 2022.
So, is this the start of Disney making travel a little easier again—or just a guilt offering with a luggage tag?
Go Deep
After vanishing into the depths for over six months, DiveQuest is finally resurfacing at EPCOT’s The Seas pavilion starting May 1, 2025. You can once again live out your underwater adventurer dreams without ever leaving the park (or, you know, dealing with actual sharks).
Bookings are now open, though the calendar is currently teasing availability only through June 2, and you’ll need to plan around the experience’s off days—Tuesdays and Wednesdays are a no-go, presumably because even divers need a break (or the fish unionized).
Sweet Ride for Your Sweet Treat
Mickey’s got a new set of wheels—and it’s loaded with soft-serve. The Mickey’s Ice Cream Truck Sundae bucket has rolled into Disney’s Pop Century Resort, delivering a sugar-fueled nostalgia bomb with rainbow sprinkles on top for a cool $27.79.
This pastel fever dream of a souvenir bucket features Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and even Chip ‘n Dale cruising in a pink, teal, and yellow ice cream truck topped with a giant cone that doubles as your spoon. And yes, it actually holds ice cream—your choice of soft-serve topped with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles, cherries, and chunks of Snickers, just in case your sweet tooth wasn’t fully committed.
Walt Disney World is dishing out updates like it’s trying to win your affection all over again. But now we want to hear from you—what are you most excited about? Which update are you skipping? And let’s settle this: are you team Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon? Let the splashy debates begin.
