Disney Week in Review: April 10, 2020

As COVID-19 continues to cause havoc, Walt Disney World remains closed and the news becomes gloomier with each day. Let’s take a look at another week of disappointing news for Disney Cast Members and guests.

Furloughs Galore: Disney has reached agreements with several unions to furlough employees starting April 19th. Cast Members will still retain their health care benefits during this period.

College Program Cancelled: New June arrivals for the college program found out the program is canceled, and that they would get a refund for their costs. Effective April 18, the Disney Internships & Programs will be suspended.

Park Hours Removed: If you check the WDW website, there are no park hours until mid-May. Disney has also canceled hotel reservations for anyone booked during those dates.

New Procedures: When the parks do open, there will be some additional screening procedures for guests. Bob Iger suggested that body temperature screenings might be conducted before a guest enters the park. These screening are already happening at Shanghai Disneyland.

No Moonlight Magic in May: As expected, DVC members were notified that all Moonlight Magic events were cancelled for the month of May. The affected dates include:

  • Magic Kingdom – April 21 & 28
  • Epcot – May 4

That’s all for the week. We have been keeping our fingers crossed that there will be happier news for the upcoming weeks.

Theresa has been a life-long Disney fan since she first visited the Magic Kingdom in 1985 at the age of 3. According to her mother, she squealed with excitement when she saw Winnie the Pooh and Chip n' Dale for the first time. That love for Disney has not waned as she grew up. She continues to be fascinated with the history of EPCOT Center and maintains the radio station, Kungaloosh Radio.
