Dateline: Walt Disney World – February 13, 2021
This week on old favorite makes a return, Disney Parks takes big losses, and the Magic Kingdom sees a subdued Super Bowl celebration. Let’s take a spin around the World.
Leave a Legacy Reimagined: Did you think that Leave a Legacy monuments were gone forever? Think again. This week the newly designed panels were unveiled with a new color palette that matches EPCOT’s new look. Along with the panels, guests have been enjoying the gleaming pylons and beautiful fountain outside of Spaceship Earth.
Cinderella Castle Changes Colors: With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Super Bowl win, Cinderella Castle was lit up in the team’s colors. There was no parade, but Rob Gronkowski was seen around the parks on Monday.
Contemporary Resort Gets Reimagined: Starting April, the Contemporary Resort begins reimagining guest rooms in the Main Tower. Back in 2019, a few rooms were designated for testing with an Incredibles overlay. No word if these spaces will be spruced up with Incredibles swag.
Disney Parks Takes a Loss: The Disney Parks division took a more than $1 billion loss for the first fiscal quarter of 2021. Domestically, the theme parks posted an $800 million loss. Yikes!
Due to that, Disney’s capital expenditure was cut by 50 percent for the first fiscal quarter of 2021. Disney only spent $519 million on expenditure projects for the theme park division.
No Masks in 2022: Disney CEO Bob Chapek believes face mask requirements and social distancing to continue in the theme parks for the immediate future. However, he does expect to see these safety measures loosen in 2022 when the COVID vaccine is available to the general public.
Another week, another step closer to “getting back to normal.” Do you think masks will last throughout the rest of the year? We’re just waiting for Port Orleans Riverside to open back up!
Stop back next week as we bring you news from around the World.
