Dateline: Walt Disney World – February 20, 2021

This week, we learn the dreaded park pass reservations system isn’t going away anything soon, Fantasmic might make a return, and WDW gears up for a magical 50th celebration. It’s time to hop on the almost-defunct Magical Express and check out news from around the World.

Reservations Might Be Here to Stay: Walt Disney World announced that 2022 tickets and packages are available on sale. Eagle-eye guests have also notice that the Disney Park Pass reservations system is active through January 14, 2023. While Disney can end the reservation system at any time, does this mean we can expect it to remain well after the days of COVID?

Price Hike in 2022: Guests can expect to pay a little more for the magic next year. The average single-day ticket will cost $134.79. That’s an increase of over $4 from 2021 prices and $7 from 2020 ticket prices. You can still get a single-day ticket for $109, but those popular days are a bit more expensive.

Getting Buggy at AK: Fans of It’s Tough to Be a Bug might want to make other plans for a few days in March. The Animal Kingdom attraction is scheduled to close on the 8th and reopen on the 12th.

Good News for Entertainment Venues: This week, Disney filed permits with the state to work on some live performance venues at Hollywood Studios. Theater of the Stars, Fantasmic, and Indiana Jones Theater are expected to upgrade a few areas to be more COVID compliant. Let’s hope live entertainment can make its way back to the parks!

Weekday Passholder Treats at AK: From February 22 to March 19, APs can head to DinoLand USA for some fun, such as exclusive beverages (Tyrannosaurus Wreck, Fossil Fuel, Pterodactyl Punch, and Triceraberry Pop) at Restaurantosaurus Lounge, an exclusive Donald Duck cookie at Dino-Bite Snacks, a promotional offer at Fossil Fun Games, and the elusive Donald Duck AP magnet.

WDW 50th Plans: While COVID put a kibosh on many of WDW’s big plans (Tron, anyone?), you can still celebrate The World’s Most Magical Celebration. The 18 month event will kick off on October 1, 2021! Mickey and Minnie will don new costumes as Spaceship Earth, Tower of Terror, the Tree of Life, and Cinderella Castle feature a Beacons of Magic makeover. Check out our post about the upcoming celebrations!

The biggest news has to be the 50th Anniversary celebration. Are you excited? What do you think about shimmering lights on Spaceship Earth? Let us know in the comments!

Until next week, see ya real soon!
