50th Eats: Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe

As you may have heard, it’s the 50th Celebration for Walt Disney World. I guess instead of exciting announcements or celebration festivities, we just get some food items named after extinct rides. Not that I’m complaining!

First on our list, the Mission to Mars Burger. Disney describes this burger as a

Burger topped with Bacon and Macaroni & Cheese served on a Bun dusted with Crushed Cheese-flavored Puffs and served with French Fries.

Since everyone has raved about this burger, I thought we would give it a shot. Let me say, if you love WDW burgers, you will love this selection.

However, the burger flavor is extremely overwhelming. Like when you first bite in, all you taste is burger meat. That flavor overpowers the cheese puff dust and macaroni & cheese.

While the mac and bacon adds plenty of texture, it was interesting how the cheesy items added no additional taste to the burger.

The mac and cheese by itself was creamy, but gets a little lost on the burger. This burger itself was very juicy, but the cheese puff dust is so sparse on the top of the bun, it really wasn’t a factor in the taste or texture.

The bacon? Who doesn’t love bacon? It adds another layer of flavor, but still that meaty burger-ness taste was just too much for this dish.

Get it if you want something unique for pictures, but you could get a regular bacon burger and not miss out anything.

As a side, you get French fries, but could upgrade them to Walt’s Chili Cheese Fries. I mean, why not?

These were the stars of the show. The fries are the crisp but yummy fries. Add some of the famous Walt’s Chili and cheese, and you have a winner. The chili itself is a basic bean chili, but it has a little spicy kick. Not too much, but you know that it is there.

Definitely grab some Walt’s Chili, whether on a hot dog, fries, or in a bread bowl.

That’s our look at two of the special treats at Cosmic Ray’s. How you tried any of these food items? Let me know what you think in the comments!

Kungaloosh Radio

Theresa has been a life-long Disney fan since she first visited the Magic Kingdom in 1985 at the age of 3. According to her mother, she squealed with excitement when she saw Winnie the Pooh and Chip n' Dale for the first time. That love for Disney has not waned as she grew up. She continues to be fascinated with the history of EPCOT Center and maintains the radio station, Kungaloosh Radio.
